- Course Structure
- This course is designed to provide candidates with academic, technical and professional training to acquire the skills necessary to work in accounts management roles in a vast range of businesses and industries.
The HNC and HND awards in Accounting are designed for those who are employed, or wish to take up a career in accounting and/or financial administration, within a range of business organisations or for progression to higher education.
The course consists of 30 units that are continually modernized to reflect the needs an developments within the industry. Several of the units provide exemption or progression onto ACCA modules enabling students to progress to a full accountancy qualification through the ACCA system.
The course will be delivered over a two year period, with 15 units in the first year and 15 units in the second years.
The academic year at WGC is divided into four ten week semesters, students attend at least 15 hours a week during term time and in addition, you will be expected to complete projects and assignments.

At West George College we expect students to attend 100% of their course, work hard and submit their work on time, this is an essential part of the way we work and our expectations of our students.
The course is divided into units with each individual unit is taught and assessed; this is called on going assessment. For most of your subjects you will be required to undertake assignments and assessments at various stages of your learning and you accumulated units these are brought together to form the Diploma award which is certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
At the end of your first year you will be expected to have achieved passes in the units attempted and completed the assessments required before being able to progress to year two.
