Getting Here

Planes, trains and automobiles - and ferries too!  If you’re coming to Glasgow, you can enjoy some fantastic travel fares.  You might want to fly or take a ferry, or maybe you’d prefer to let the train take the strain.

Glasgow International Airport  is located just eight miles (13 kilometres) west of Glasgow City Centre and combined with Edinburgh airport (less than one hour away) services direct flights from many European cities, including the key hubs of Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt and Paris.

Glasgow Prestwick International Airport located thirty miles (48 kilometres) south of Glasgow.  A railway station is adjacent to the airport with regular direct trains to the city centre. 

Getting about
Finding your way around the new Glasgow Airport is easy.  Just follow these simple steps... 

Check-in

Check-in desks are located in the main terminal (desks 1-39) and in T2 (desks 40-64). Flight information screens will let you know where you need to check-in for your flight.

Departing passengers
Once you have checked-in, follow the signs for departures and make your way to security search, located on the first floor. There is now one central search area for all departing passengers. 

Fast, efficient and safe

Your security is BAA’s number one priority. So Glasgow Airport has invested in new technology, and a purpose built security search area, to keep passengers safely on the move. 

Follow these simple steps and youll be on your way in no time. 

Pack any liquids in your hold luggage, if you can 

If you must carry liquids, pack containers no more than 100mls in a clear, re-sealable plastic bag 

Retain your boarding card at all times - you will be required to present this at security, and before you board your flight. 

Remove any coats and jackets and place them in a tray, along with any liquids. 

Do not carry any sharp items. 

Getting to your gate
Whether you’re travelling overseas, or in the UK, you’re never far from your departure gate. We recommend you allow this long to get from security search to your gate: 

Gates 1-12   7 minutes
Gates 14-26 5 minutes 
Gates 27-52 10 minutes

It’s all for you

Once you’ve passed through security, you can access the full range of shops, bars and restaurants available in the main terminal.

Glasgow Central Station is a key hub in the national rail network and provides excellent onward travel to the many beauty spots and places of interest within Greater Glasgow and the Clyde Valley.

Glasgow Queen Street Station is the second main line station situated in the city centre. As well as providing excellent links to areas in and around Greater Glasgow.  Its Express service to Edinburgh takes under 50 minutes and runs every 15 mins.

The Trainline - this site is a no-nonsense, direct approach to on-line train travel booking.  Use this link to find out times, book tickets and reserve seats from any train operator in the mainland UK.

BritRail - this site provides information on special rail passes such as the Freedom of Scotland Travel Pass which are only available to international travellers. You will also find timetables and details on where to purchase and how to use BritRail Passes.  *BritRail Passes are not available in the UK and must be purchased outside the UK.

By Car 

The main M74 north/south motorway allows quick, easy access to the entire region.

Approaching from the south follow the M74 motorway past Hadrian’s Wall through the heart of the region and on to Glasgow city centre.

The Clyde Valley Tourist Route. The route via the A73, A72 and A702 offers motorists a relaxed and scenic alternative through the South Lanarkshire countryside.

Approaching from the north the M9 motorway takes you through North Lanarkshire to Glasgow and from the east the M8 from Edinburgh travels through Glasgow city centre and beyond to the picturesque towns and villages of Inverclyde.
